Google Business Profiles have been plagued by several issues over the years. A Google Product Expert, Ben Fisher, lists a few that arise when adding a new owner or manager to an existing profile:
- Removing a profile from the account, thereby deleting the profile.
- Hijacking a listing by removing owners and changing details.
- Holding a listing hostage.
These accidental, and sometimes unauthorized actions, can severely impact a company’s listing and business.
In January 2022, Google initiated a 7-day waiting period for newly added owners and managers to reduce these issues. During this time they may not delete the profile, remove other managers or owners, or transfer ownership of the profile.
Other user permissions are not restricted so new owners or managers can edit the profile, add offers, reply to reviews, etc.

Understand New Owner & Manager Limitations
When a new owner or manager is added to an existing Business Profile, they must wait for 7 days before they can manage all the features of the profile. During this 7 day period, the new owner or manager gets an error if they try any of the following:
- Delete or undelete a profile.
- Remove other owners or managers from a profile.
- Transfer primary ownership of a profile to themselves or a third user.
- An existing owner or manager tries to transfer primary ownership of the profile to a new owner or manager still in their first 7 days.
If the new owner or manager deletes their account within the first 7 days, they’re removed from the profile. If they undelete their account, they must be added to the profile again.
